McEwan Long Spoon
Maker:
D McEwan and Son
, Edinburgh/Musselburgh Date: 1875
Those of you who visit the site a lot will probably note that there have been quite a number of McEwan longnose clubs on the site of late. This is no accident. To me, with the clubmaking tradition over six generations and the impeccable craftsmanship, their clubs are definitely an investment for the future.
This is another beauty, Long spoons are rare, probably because, before the metal rut iron, they were the niblicks of their day and, of course, given the terrain, they broke.
This is 42" long with a 5½" scare and a thick brass soleplate secured by six screws. The beech head, markedly concave, 4.5" x 1.5" x 1.25" is clearly stamped McEwan.
Probably the original hide grip with woollen underlisting.
Price $4200.00 Reference: S274
