Ayres "Oak" model - long-hoseled putter
Maker:
F H Ayres
, London Date: 1923
F H Ayres specialised in making patented and outlandish putters and this model takes the idea of a long hosel transmitting 'feel' to the player to extremes. It was not their design, in fact designed and registered by W G Oke (qv), and the reverse of the head is stamped with his name and the design registration number plus his Oak Tree mark and "Oak Brand". It is also stamped "2" (from a time before club numbers were standardised), "Putter M" (for medium lie) and "Hand Forged". "F H Ayres" is stamped, in signature, as is Staynorus, Rustless, Ayres' name for their own rustless metal compound. The head itself is boat-shaped.
The tapered hosel is 7.75" long.
The hickory shaft is straight and carries the original black leather grip.
Price $465.00 Reference: PUT439
