Harry Vardon Ladies' Driver
Maker: Harry Vardon , Scarborough / Totteridge
Date: 1904

Harry Vardon was one of the last top professionals to play with scareneck woods, continuing well into the socket head era. No surprise then that Vardon fans followed his fashion and bought his clubs so this may be a few years younger than the date suggests.

Unusual as this is from his own workshop rather than one oth "Autograph" series from Spalding.

A driver, a ladies’ model with the shaft an inch shorter than the standard model. The persimmon head is smaller too and the shaft and scare also finer. There is a horn slip secured by three hickory dowels and the head stamped “H Vardon” (in caps).

The lower whipping has probably been replaced because, although it makes for an interesting display, it is unlikely a clubmaker of the time would leave both the top and bottom of the scare exposed. The smoothly worn sheepskin grip may well be original and sits atop a straight hickory shaft.

Price $220.00
