The Champion Putter
Maker:
Thornton and Company
, Edinburgh/Glasgow/Belfast Date: 1912
An excellent selection for a club or society prize with an impeccable Scottish pedigree having been made by Thorntons in their premises in the middle of Edinburgh's Princes Street.
The face has an enclosed dot pattern and the reverse is marked "The Princes", "Thornton & Co" and "The Champion Putter" along with one of Thornton's marks, a cross in a shield.
The shaft is straight and carries what is probably the original smooth black polished calfskin grip.
