Frank Hoy putter
Maker: Frank Hoy , Strathpeffer
Date: 1928

A late 1920s putter, probably made by Forgan for the Strathpeffer professional as "Scotia" was a Forgan model. This is made out of a soft alloy which I do not recall seeing on other Scotia models so this attribution is open to question. The softness might be to give more feel to the putter or may have been a rustless alloy (if it was it didn't work but all the rust has been removed now). The consequence of the softness is lots of "dings" on the head.

The reverse of the head is stamped "Frank Hoy Special" and "Scotia Putter". It has an enclosed dot pattern face. The form is a slight gooseneck design (to concentrate the sweetspot). The hickory shaft is straight so the club is perfectly playable. The grip is an early 1930s replacement with the characteristic punched holes. It is close enough in date to the original date not to be anachronistic. In any case, the original grip would have looked rather too long on the club and the small band of whipping hides its nail hole.
