Forgan spoon for India
Maker: Robert Forgan and Son , St Andrews
Date: 1907

A Forgan socket-head spoon from the reign of Edward VII as it has the crown which shows the royal patronage. It has two shaft stamps, one the normal "R Forgan and Son" and a second "Wagle & Co Bombay" which shows it was exported to India. Nothing unusual in that, Forgan sent many clubs to the sub-continent but the crown is also stamped "A B Sibbald" for the professional at Basingstoke from 1909 until the late 1920s. I have no idea where he fits in this puzzle, whether he was previously in India or whether the club was first marked for export and then rerouted.

Anyway, a fine piece of persimmon for the head with brass soleplate and a fibre slip between it and the head. A good straight hickory shaft with the original grip in good condition.

Price $260.00
