Benny putter
Maker: Ben Sayers , North Berwick
Date: 1928

A fine example of this highly collectible Ben Sayers putter. This forged stainless steel, long-hoselled smooth-faced putter was introduced by Ben Sayers jnr in tribute to his father. It has a toe shaped like the prow of a boat and the "Gruvsol" patent sole, corrugated ridges (used on Sayers' brassies and spoons also) to reduce resistance to the clubhead moving forward. The reverse of the head has, with very clear stampings, "Ben Sayers" and "North Berwick Scotland". Also present is the Sayers bird cleekmark and "Stainless Steel Gruvsol " and "Benny".

An interesting extra on this club is the shaft which is square at the top. Many square handled putters are formed by splicing a square piece of wood to an original round shaft but this one has been made to taper from a square cross section to round at the hosel.

An excellent gift for any would-be collector
