Walter Hagen driver
Maker:
J P Cochrane
, Edinburgh Date: 1924
This is a large socket head persimmon driver made by the Cochrane company in Edinburgh, before Hagen switched his "name" to the L A Young company in Detroit in 1926.
The club looks great but this is one of the few on the site I would not recommend taking onto the course as I had to make a small repair to the nose and a hairline crack to the hosel. Neither is visible to the naked eye but I could not guarantee the structural integrity if you start whacking balls around.
The crown has the great man's signature picked out in gold. On the sole, is a brass trapezoidal plate (which has done its job in protecting the club as part of it has broken off revealing the horn slip below) secured by five simplex screws. On it is stamped "Genuine Walter Hagen Model Sole Makers Cochrane's Ltd Driver".
The hickory shaft is straight and is finished with a replacement tan leather grip
