John Wisden Lofter
Maker:
John Wisden & Co
, London Date: 1905
A golf club from the home of cricket publishing, this looks like one of the first clubs Wisden produced under their own name. With a deep, if uneven, patina, this has an irregular hand-punched dot face. The reverse is stamped "J Wisden" (faintly) "London" (all in an oval form" and "Warranted Hand Forged". A straight hickory shaft has a 2" band of whipping above the hosel which covers an early shaft repair. The brown leather grip, with red section below to emphasise decorative whipping, is probably a 1920s replacement.
