Clubmakers John Irvine Prestwick John Irvine was born in Prestwick in 1892 and served his golfing apprenticeship in the town with David Kinnell. Sometime around the start of the First World War he became the first professional at the Ayr Burgh club. Serving as a Private in the 6th/7th Battalion, the Gordon Highlanders, he was killed on 13.10.1918 and buried in Iwuy Communal Cemetery close to Cambrai.
