Jack Johns
Ashford Manor/Southdown
A younger brother of Charles Johns, Jack was born in Fulham in February 1891. He was professional at the same clubs as his brother, Ashdown Manor, from where he entered the southern qualifiers for the News of the World tournament in 1912 and, the next year he played in the qualifiers for the Open at Hoylake from the Southdown club with Charles affiliated to Ashdown.

By March 1916 all five brothers were fighting in the war, Jack and Charles privates with the London Scottish, George in the Royal Garrison Artillery, Frank and Fred with the Westminster Dragoons. Fred and Jack were not to return.

Jack attested in Hounslow in March 1916 and was sent to Salonica and Egypt with the London Scottish. Later posted to France with the 14th Battalion of the regiment hew was killed in action ay Ypres on 21 August 1918. He is buried at Locre No 10 cemetery.
