Clubmakers J F E Ackerley Cheadle Born in Prestwich in 1892, the short mention of James Francis Postler Ackerley’s death in the Manchester Evening News described him as the professional at Gatley Golf Links though he may well have been an assistant. He was still living with his parents at the time of the 1911 census and is shown as a packer at the local bleach factory. The 1901 census shows he had five siblings. First a driver in the Royal Field Artillery, he was promoted to Bombardier (the artillery equivalent of corporal) and was killed on 1 May 1917. He is buried in the Menin Road South military cemetery in Flanders. Search the catalogue for clubs by this maker | |
