David Kinnell
Leven/Prestwick
Born 1879. A clubmaker both in his native Leven, where he was professional at Leven Links in 1898-1902, and Prestwick where he was pro at St Nicholas from 1900, taking over from his elder brother James, until well into the 1930s, living in Bentinck Terrace. He was also the "D" in J & D Kinnell of Prestwick, a business run with his brother, until James was killed in the First World War.

He spent a couple of years teaching golf for a sports shop in Glasgow then took up the professional’s post at Kingussie in 1937.

He tied for 5th in the 1908 Open Championship, with Harry Vardon, a shot better than J H Taylor behind the winner James Braid. As was often the case with skilled players around the turn of the century, challenge matches were more important than tournaments, playing with his brother at Leven against Hugh Kirkaldy and Willie Auchterlonie in 1897 and, in 1902, at Prestwick against Sandy Herd, that year’s Open Champion.
