Clubmakers Leonard Lewis Dudley/Horsham Leonard G Lewis was born in Great Malvern in 1879 and was one of seven brothers who became professional golfers. Leonard began as assistant groundskeeper and clubmaker to his brother, Willie at the new Derbyshire Golf Club in 1893. His first position as professional in his own right was at Dudley between 1898 and 1907. He moved from there to the new Horsham club, where James Braid had laid out nine holes. This club was, in turn, superseded and moved to a new 18 hole course at the other side of Horsham, the Mannings Heath Golf Club, in 1913 where he remained, save for service in the First World War, until 1938.
