![]() Clubmakers Harry Burgess Bramhall Richard Henry Burgess, born in Prescot, Lancs, 1894, began his career at the Houldsworth Golf Club, Levenshulm, Manchester, listed as a ‘golf groundsman’ living with his parents on the 1911 census. He was appointed professional at Bramhall in Cheshire just before the outbreak of the First World War. Enlisting as a private in the 14th Batallion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders he was killed in action on 14 March 1917. His parents, Samuel and Ann learned that their only son had been killed the following month. He is buried in the Peronne Communal Cemetery in the Somme and also commemorated on a grave in Christ Church CoE church, Bramhall.
