Clubmakers D & W Auchterlonie St Andrews/North Berwick David Auchterlonie had started a clubmaking business with Andrew Crosthwaite. When Crosthwaite left, David was joined by his younger brother Willie, the Open champion of 1893. Those wishing to save money on golf equipment would do well to follow Willie Auchterlonie's example: he frequently played with only two clubs. Auchterlonie is one of the most famous names in golf: for playing. another brother Laurie won the US Open in 1902 and manufacturing, the musselback iron began with Auchterlonie and their approaching cleek of 1894, Willie patented a putter in 1899 with a weighted bar along the back and a weighted driver was patented in 1913.
