C F Trineman
Axe Cliff/Hinsdale (USA)
C F Trineman Born in Exeter, March 1882 Charles Frederick Trineman began his career at Eltham Warren sometime in the 1890s. He served with the Devon Yeomanry throughout the the Boer War, 1899-1902, and was awarded the Queen's Medal with five clasps. He was professional at the Axe Cliff club in Devon between 1904 and 1910.

He went to America in 1910 becoming professional at Hinsdale in Illinois. From here he played in the first professional golf tournament, an invitational, in Indiana in June 1910 and, later in the year, played in the Western Open at Beverly Country Club in Chicago though he was eliminated in the preliminary match-play round.

Subsequently he moved to Australia. On the outbreak of World War I, he joined the Australian Imperial Force and served in Egypt and the Dardanelles as a staff sergeant in the 18th Bn, 5th Infantry Division.

At some point he became a Sergean-Cook in the Australian forces and gave a demonstration of a field kitchen at Victoria Barracks and was presented with a gold wristwatch by the butchers and cooks. He was killed in action at Gallipoli on 22 August 1915. He left behind a wife and a daughter and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial.
