Clubmakers Andrew Phimister Forres/Grantown-on-Spey Born in Lossiemouth in 1887, Andrew Phimister began his career as apprentice greenkeeper, I believe to his father, at Forres before the First World War. Serving with the Royal Scots Fusiliers as Company Sergeant-Major during the war he was awarded the Military Medal and France’s Croix de Guerre. After the war he was professional at Forres between 1918 and 1920 before moving the following year to take up the same position at Grantown-on-Spey. He designed the course at Culbin for the Findhorn Golf Club which opened in 1926. Described as ‘an exceptionally capable coach and clubmaker’, he was captain of the local Rifle Club and a very good curler. He died in 1933. Search the catalogue for clubs by this maker | |
