Clubmakers Charles Richards Stourbridge Charles Ernest Richards was born in Penn Common, Staffordshire, near Wolverhamption in 1880, joined the PGA in 1902 and was appointed professional at Stourbridge in Wiltshire the following year. He reached the final of the Midland Professional Foursomes in 1910 playing with E Veness of Dudley. He joined the army on the outbreak of war in 1914 and served initially in the Devonshire Regiment (Service number 37720) but later transferred to the 1st Battalion, Dorsetshire Regiment. (Service number 31235). Richards was killed in action on 11 August 1918 during the Battle of Amiens and buried in Vl. E. 13 of Bouchoir New British Cemetery.
