![]() Clubmakers Walter Tedder Nottingham Walter Tedder formally began his career as an apprentice to Tom Williamson, the Nottingham pro and clubmaker, in 1901 although he had been passionately keen on golf previously, working as a caddy without the means to buy proper clubs. He learned to be a clubmaker and was rewarded with a post as full professional the following year at Bulwell Forest. He remained here until 1910 when he became the first professional at the new Nottingham City club where he remained until, at least, 1940 and where members still play for a trophy in his name. Tedder was made an honorary member of the club in 1934. He was widely known for his skill as a clubmaker and for being a good teacher. The Jonko putter (known as the duck-head putter, a bit fancifully, but with a larger circular area in the middle was patented by him in 1912 and then revived by Gibson of Kinghorn towards the end of the 1920s.
