Clubmakers Fred Kirk Luffenham Heath/Stanton He began his career as assistant to Ernest Riseborough at Sheringham from, at the latest, 1911 when he appears on the census lodging with Mary Leak and her daughter in the Norfolk seaside town. At the start of the war he enlisted with the Niblick Brigade. After the war, in April 1919, he was appointed professional to the Luffenham Heath GC in Rutland. In 1923 he was back in Nottingham and took over from J H Atkinson at Stanton-on-the-Wolds. He was still there in 1926 but the club was advertising in January 1927 for a new professional. I have not yet confirmed a matching identity but I believe the vacancy arose because of the death of Frederick Kirk in Selston on 17 January 1927. Search the catalogue for clubs by this maker | |
