Clubmakers C W Parsons Brighton Born in Brighton in 1884, Charles William Parsons began his golfing career as an assistant at the Brighton and Hove Club. Playing in a foursome with James Braid against his boss, Andrew Denholm, and J H Taylor in a match celebrating the extension of the course in 1908, he set a new course record and ‘his play was much praised by the two champions’. The following year he became professional at the East Brighton club where he remained for the rest of his golfing career. On the 1911 census he is a professional golfer boarding with Richard and Jane Burtenshaw at 23 Rugby Place, Brighton, a short walk from the East Brighton golf course. In 1930 the club presented him with a silver salver and a cheque for £150 to mark his 21 years of service. Although he stopped playing tournament golf because of pain in his shoulders he won the Sussex professional championship five times during his time at East Brighton. He died in Brighton on 4 December 1951. Search the catalogue for clubs by this maker | |
