Clubmakers Andrew Matthew Musselburgh/Newcastle Andrew Matthew was born in Musselburgh and went to Newcastle as an apprentice clubmaker in 1902 under J S Caird at the Newcastle United club, staying with him when Caird moved to the City of Newcastle club. In 1919 he went into business with Tom Edgar in the clubmaking firm Matthew and Edgar. He became professional to the City of Newcastle club in 1922 (at the same Chimney Mills location where Edgar had moved to be professional at the Newcastle United club) and. although not achieving tournament success, was considered a good teacher and clubmaker.
