Clubmakers Robert "Bob" Campbell Troon A son of a family of, at least, thirteen children where seven brothers took up golfing as a career, the most famous being Alec, Robert’s career never had a chance to develop. He was an assistant with Willie Fernie at Troon when war broke out. Initially he served with the Lovat Scouts, Britain’s first sniper unit, but was later transferred to the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders. Serving with the 6th Batallion, he was first listed as missing then confirmed as killed on 11 April 1917. He is buried in Orange Trench Cemetery, Monchy-le-Preux, Pas-de-Calais.
