Clubmakers William Fulford Bushey Hall/Northwood Born in Northam, Devon, in 1858, he was an all-round sportsman, a very good athlete, a sprinter good enough to win the Sheffield Handicap and a rugby union full-back. He became a golf professional in his 30s as he is listed on the 1881 census in Northam as a tailor. The father of Harry who was his assistant at Northwood and one of eight children listed in Northwood House on the census in Ruislip in 1901. William had been professional at Bushey Hall in 1897-8 before moving to Northwood in 1899. He foreshadowed his son by taking on a professional position in France, at Dieppe, in 1907.
