C W Tooley
Bleakdown/West Byfleet
Clifford William Tooley was born in Great Yarmouth in 1884 and is listed with his parents and siblings at 68 Victoria Street in the 1901 census.


He began his career at the Mid-Norfolk club in Attleborough and was professional there between 1906 and 1908.

He took up the position of professional at the Bleakdown Club in West Byfleet in 1913, the year before the First World War. The course was ploughed up for agricultural use during the war and Tooley served as a Private with the 7th Batallion, the Norfolk Regiment. He was killed in action on 30 November 1917. He is commemorated on Panel 4 of the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval and on the war memorial in Byfleet village.
