William Davey
Newton Green
Born in Bungay, Suffolk, 11 March 1890, William Davey, may have started his golfing career as an assistant to Ashley Davey (relationship, if any, unknown) at Thanet but we know, for sure, he became professional at Newton Green in 1910. He is listed as a 'greensman' at the golf course in the 1911 census with his brother, Arthur a labourer there.

He served as a Scout with the BEF and was wounded in action on 25 September 1915 subsequently dying from his wounds on 18 September. He left a widow, Sybil.
