Clubmakers George E Skevington Brough/Wakefield Born in Brough in 1888, George E Skevington was assistant to Willie Wallis at Brough from around 1905 before serving as professional at Wakefield from 1912 until 1915 at which time he enlisted. He was the eldest of five brothers from Brough who all fought in the First World War. He served originally in the Army Cyclist Corps but was transferred to the 18th Battalion, King’s Liverpool Regiment. On 20 June 1917 he was killed in action by a shell and was buried in the Railway Dugouts Burial Ground by Zellebeke. One of his brothers was killed in September of the following year.
