Clubmakers John Pearson Monifieth John Pearson was a regular competitor in amateur competitions in Monifieth in the 1890s and was a clubmaker in the town. On Christmas Eve 1902 his wooden shop and workshop at the foot of Tay Street, where the old first tee had been, was completely destroyed by fire with nothing left but the corrugated iron sheets which formed the roof. He was only partly insured. I don’t know what happened to his business. He applied for a new site for it in January 1903. Sympathy was extended but the application turned down as the only site available was too small for what he wanted to build and, the Dalhousie estate having the right of supervision of building plans, would be certain to reject it.
