Brodclair putter

A Brodclair putter, a registered design, by Brodie of Anstruther. Featuring a long (5”) and thin hosel, this was a popular model for the company for a good number of years, starting in the hickory era and enduring into the age of steel shafts.
This is a steel-shafted club with a wood-effect pyratone coating, carrying a typical 1930s punched hole black leather grip and finished with a wooden end-piece. The shaft curves gently backwards in what is referred to (far too frequently in my opinion) as a “St Andrews bow”. Being steel shafted it cannot have warped so this is a genuine application of the shape.
The head has an enclosed ray pattern face, a broad sole with grooves (presumably to reduce friction) and the reverse is clearly stamped “Warranted Hand Forged”, “Brodclair Rustless Putter” and “Reg’d 740464”. This is all to the left of a deep aiming line in the centre of the head, also visible as a groove on the top edge of the club.
