Fancy-face David Anderson & Sons brass putter
Maker:
David Anderson and Sons
, St Andrews Date: 1905
A striking brass putter from a famous St Andrews maker, this would make an excellent birthday or Christmas gift.
The face has a so-called ‘fancy face’, in this case punched dots forming a ball pattern.
On the reverse of the head are clear stampings, “D Anderson & Sons St Andrews”, “Special Putter” and, also in oval form, “T Lambert Newcastle upon Tyne”. In 30 years, I had never seen this Lambert stamp before, now I’ve seen it on two clubs (both from David Anderson) in a matter of weeks. As yet I have found no record of a professional or a sporting retailer by this name in the Newcastle area but I’m on the case.
The hickory shaft is straight and good quality as is the norm for this maker. The grip, probably original, is black leather.
