Penfold spoon
Maker: F E Penfold , Lewes
Date: 1919

A good-looking spoon in excellent original condition made by, or for, the long-serving professional at Lewes, Frank Penfold. The large persimmon head is faintly stamped with a small “F E Penfold Lewes” mark. You need to know its there to see it, if that makes sense. It might become clearer if some more of the varnish is removed or it may obliterate it entirely. I did not want to take the risk.

It is ‘through-hoselled’ i.e. the shaft comes all the way through the head and is made flush with the sole. The black ebonite slip secured by three hickory dowels is in perfect condition, completely unmarked.

It has a straight, good-quality hickory shaft finished with a soft black leather polished calfskin grip, probably original. This club will serve you well, in the course or in a display rack.

Price $155.00
