Smooth-faced cleek from Edinburgh
Maker:
Gunn & Co
, Edinburgh Date: 1898
A rare club in that there will not be that many from this maker, the firm only operating on Braid Road in Morningside, Edinburgh for a few years.
A narrow-faced cleek, as was traditional at the time, adding that little challenge to making good contact with the ball or, as the greenkeepers of the day hated, the turf.
Smooth-faced, as all irons of the period were, the back is stamped “Gunn & Co” in curved form with “Special” above.
The original hickory shaft is in excellent condition and suitable for play. The sheepskin grip is probably also original. A nice display club but also suitable for 19th century hickory play.
