Royal Blackheath baffing spoon
Maker:
George Brews
, Blackheath/Minchinhampton Date: 1893
A fine baffing spoon (40½” length) from an excellent clubmaker during his time at Blackeath. A sturdy beech head has grooves etched on the curved face. There is a very small lead backweight and the sole has a full curved brass soleplate secured by six screws. The head is clearly stamped “G Brews Blackheath” in curcular form.
The hickory shaft is straight and in very good condition. It is built up at the top with a thick woollen underlisting, still complete, covered in part by portions of an old sheepskin grip supported by various bands of whipping.
A very attractive item from Royal Blackeath, the oldest golf club in England.
