Forgan "100" putter
Maker: Robert Forgan and Son , St Andrews
Date: 1926

The “100” putter with its wryneck and heavy head was a model first made by Spence and Gourlay in the first decade of the twentieth century. When James Spence sold the business to Forgan it seems they continued to make the model and it bears the flasgstick cleekmark they also took over from Spence in 1926.

Below the flasgstick is “100 Putter” and the reverse of the head is also stamped “Warranted Hand Forged” and “Robert Forgan & Son Ltd” clearly stamped within an oval. The face is marked with an enclosed dot pattern.

The grip is a typical mid-1920s burgundy affair with a different colour at the bottom end to accentuate the fancy whipping. The hickory shaft is straight and probably original. It’s possible that because it does not carry the Forgan stamp that the whole club was made for them by James Spence.

A nice club for play or display.
