Frank Johnson mashie iron
Maker:
Frank Johnson
, London Date: 1908
A very solid club from Frank Johnson in the form of a mashie iron. A hyphenated front enclosed within different bars and probably large enough to be thought of as a spade mashie but mashie iron was the weapon J H Taylor recommended for club players.
The reverse of the club is clearly marked with Johnson’s key cleekmark, above “Premium” for the range in script and “Mashie Iron”. It is also marked “Frank Johnson” in a curve in capitals, above “Special London” with “Warranted Hand Forged” at the top head of the club.
The hickory shaft is straight and topped with a dark blue replacement suede grip.
