"The Beret" putter
Maker:
Fred Whiting
, Cornwall/Sandwich Date: 1935
A striking design of the 1930s, a metal-shafted “Beret Putter”, this one marked for Fred Whiting, long-serving professional at the famous Open Championship venue of Sandwich. A “flattened” mallet head is marked “The Beret” on the top surface and “Fred Whiting” (in signature), “Royal St George’s GC Sandwich” on the base. The face has an enclosed dot pattern. Very eye-catching and, to me at least, a comfortable putter with which to play.
