Grose was always modern: ask the old men who as little boys pressed their noses to the window of the London shop to look at the bikes or pored over adverts in comics like "Gem".

This mashie niblick also has a distinctive modernistic look about it, just a touch of art deco in the styling. The boat-shaped head has a hyphen-pattern face enclosed within decorative bars. The reverse has a deep stamp "James Grose Ltd London" within a double ellipse plus "Warranted Hand Forged" and an "L", near the toe, to signify this is a ladies' club.

The black leather grip on a straight hickory shaft is almost certainly original.
