Forrester Maxwell Iron
Maker: George Forrester , Elie and Earlsferry
Date: 1911

The hosel is drilled in accordance with the Maxwell patent of 1910, 12 holes in two sets of six, and the club has a flanged sole, the idea being to transfer weight away from the hosel to the head.

It offers a little caution in dating clubs. The reverse of the head is stamped "G Forrester Elie & Earlsferry" in oval form and common wisdom has it that, after George's son joined the business in 1903 and it was renamed George Forrester & Son, clubs were stamped with the new name. This club can be no earlier than 1910 and still one of the old stamps was in use. The clubhead is also stamped "Warranted Hand Forged" (in oval form), Special and "Maxwell Iron" below the "Accurate Arrow" mark. The face has an enclosed dot pattern

A good straight hickory shaft carries what is probably the original soft black leather grip.

Price $165.00
