Belgian juvenile driver
Maker:
H Burrows
, Holland/Royal Antwerp Date: 1924
An interesting club for a number of reasons. Firstly the crown is faintly stamped "H Burrows St Andre sur Mer", this St Andrews on sea being in Belgium from where we do not see many early clubs. Secondly, although it has a light lead backweight appropriate to the reduced size of clubhead for a juvenile or small lady, it has three circular "plugs" of lead inserted in the sole (possibly an Auchterlonie patent) and very unusual in a juvenile club. The eyecatchingness is further enhanced by the red fibre insert in the face secured by four shoemaker's nails.
The light hickory shaft, appropriate to a juvenile club, is straight and in very good condition and finished with a soft suede grip..
