Keddie transitional brassie
Maker:
James Keddie
, Elie/Hastings Date: 1892
A golden beech brassie made by James Keddie in Earlsferry, the birthplace of James Braid. The crown is clearly stamped with his name picked out in gold paint. The face has a leather face insert secured by cobblers' pins, probably from the time the club was first made rather than as a repair. This protected it from the hard gutta percha ball of the time. There is a small repair to the nose of the club.
A full brass plate covers the sole of the club and further protection is provided by a ram's horn slip.
The straight hickory shaft carries what is probably the original sheepskin grip. The whipping too is probably original save for a small missing part I have replaced. .
Price $1470.00 Reference: B357
