Forgan "Prince of Wales" juvenile cleek
Maker:
Robert Forgan and Son
, St Andrews Date: 1897
A nice example of a juvenile cleek bearing Forgan's Prince of Wales ostrich feathers' cleekmark which he used to show the patronage of the prince before he became King Edward VII in 1901. Around the plume is a clear stamp of "R Forgan & Son St Andrews". "Warranted Hand Forged" is also stamped in an oval form.
The hickory shaft is straight but is not stamped with Forgan's name which suggests it may be a replacement. Having stripped back at least 90 years worth of varnish to get to the original stain, it must have been a very early replacement. Dainty sheepskin grip.
A good representative club for any collection.
