Stewart mashie niblick for Jack White
Maker:
Jack White
, London/Gullane Date: 1910
A mashie niblick with head forged by Tom Stewart for Jack White, the 1904 Open Champion, during his spell as professional to the famous Sunningdale club. The face has an enclosed irregular hand punched square dot patter. The reverse is marked with Tom Stewart's post-1905 pipe cleekmark with accompanying trademark information, "Jack White Sunningdale", in an oval, "Mashie Niblick" and "Special". The shaft is a very fine piece of hickory with long straight grain lines making it look like an old ash shaft at first sight. It is stamped "J White Special". The black all-weather grip is quite worn and almost certainly original.
A well made club is you favour a mashie niblick for hickory play but also an attractive display piece.
