Open Championship 1865: Prestwick
The 1865 tournament marked the first appearance of 'the boy' brought along by Old Tom Morris to the surprise of the other golfers. Young Tom Morris, aged fourteen, gave up after the first two rounds (though he was a shot ahead of his father at this point) but his time would come. The winner was the previous year's runner up, Andrew Strath. A St Andrews native, he had taken over from Old Tom Morris as keeper of the green at Prestwick and, with a year to get to know the course, now triumphed. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
