Clubmakers C A Harris Sandown and Shanklin Charles Albert Harris was born in Sandwich in 1882 and after his marriage there, to Florence Horseman in 1906, he came as professional to the Sandown and Shanklin club, Isle of Wight. He is shown as living at St Helens, Station Avenue, Sandown, on the 1911 census with his widowed mother, wife, and son and daughter aged 3 and 2. He served as a Private in the Tank Corps in the First World War and was killed in France on 27.11.1917. He is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval.
