A Shaw
Sheffield
Arthur Shaw was professional at the Lees Hall club in Sheffield, probably from the time the club opened in 1908 but certainly from 1909 when he played an exhibition match with fellow local professional W T Jefferies on the occasion of the opening of the club house.

He played in the 1911 Open Championship at Sandwich and the qualifying round at Muirfield in 1912.

At the beginning of 1916, he was auctioning a mashie at the Lees Hall Golf Club, in aid of the Red Cross. Before the year was out he was himself killed.

He joined the Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment) and was posted missing in September 1916. This was later updated to killed in action on 3 September 1916 and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
