William Hendry
Monifieth/Belfast
William Hendry The elder brother of Jock Hendry, he was born in Monifieth in 1890 and learned his clubmaking with R D Smith.

He was in Monifieth in 1910, playing regularly as an amateur, but not by the time of the 1911 census. Perhaps he obtained a professional’s post in the London area as he served with the London Scottish regiment in the First World War.

After the war he was appointed professional to the Malone Golf Club in Belfast but this was to end with his death from pneumonia in 1922.
