Reg Wilson
Berkhamsted/Croham Hurst
Reginald George Wilson was born in New Bushey in Hertfordshire in 1886 and began his professional career locally at Berkhamsted in 1904. He had a couple of top six Open Championship finishes before the war and played for England against Scotland in 1913. In that year he became professional at the Croham Hurst club and spent the war playing exhibition matches to raise supplies for the Red Cross and the War Supplies Clearing House.

After the war he continued the enter the Open Championship (1928 was the last time he appears to have qualified for all four final rounds) but without his former success and his name crops up in the News of the World and the Thousand Guineas tournaments and the Belgian Open but most of his time seems to have been spent as a teaching pro, remaining at Croham Hurst until 1945 and advertising ‘tuition, a great success’.
