Clubmakers Archie Tosh Aberdeen/Cape Town Archie Tosh was from Edzell but was playing his golf in Montrose at the Mercantile club and served a clubmaking apprenticeship with Winton in the town. He became assistant to Duncan McNicol at the Murcar course in Aberdeen in 1913. By November of that year, though, he was off to South Africa, to serve as professional and clubmaker to the Mowbray club in Cape Town. In 1923 he became professional at the new club of Hermanus where he designed the course. He also designed Milnerton and Langebaan in the Western Cape. The Metropolitan Club appointed him professional in 1927. He was runner-up in the South African Open of 1921 and 1923 and finally won the competition in 1929.
