Clubmakers Duncan McNicol Aberdeen Duncan McNicol had a clubmaking business in Aberdeen and is listed at 117 Urquhart Road in 1907. He became the first professional to the Murcar club in Aberdeen. His association began unofficially as he is described as occupying the workshop adjoining the clubhouse from the time the club opened in the summer of 1909. It was January 1910 before he was confirmed as professional. A press report describes him as ‘the well-known city sportsman’ but, as yet, I have been unable to identify any sporting claims to fame, During his time at Murcar (he was there until 1914) he seems to have left competitive professional golf to his young assistants, Tosh and Belford.
